Check your beans, people! I was running my fingers through my gold coins I mean tarbais beans and noticed a faint smell of... mold! Picked out a few that looked suspicious. Have the beans spread out on the counter now (instead of the jar) and will let them dry a bit more before putting them in a bag in the freezer. The thing is I didn't harvest till they were fully dried on the vine, so not sure if this is just what happens or if I've done something wrong.
Zoe: Yah moist beans will mold or even sprout! I've been drying mine in the oven with just the oven light on, it gets to about 85 deg in my oven that way
Aruna: I thought mine were dry! Ugh.
Zoe: When you bite into one does it feel chewy ?
Aruna: Not at all.
Meg: I just opened mine up and removed a few discolored ones. I'll let them dry on the counter for a day or so and inspect them more thoroughly in the am. Damn.
Jennifer: Elaine will you check the ones I gave you? I thought they were dry but now am worried.
Susan: I had the same issue. Had to throw out a few today. Now they are laid out on platters on my counter to dry.
Elaine: Jennifer, They look fine but I'm putting them out in a tray now to be safe.
Elaine: Thanks for the heads up, Aruna!
Guy: I dried mine flat for at least a day (mostly 2-3 days) before putting them in jars... so far so good...
